Buffalo Photographer | What Does a Portrait Session During Covid Look Like?

Updated: Sep 16, 2020

If you're interested in having family photos taken but are nervous about the process during a pandemic - let me break down a few of the precautions I am personally taking to keep my clients (and myself!) as safe as possible.

  1. The first step is the easiest. Wash yo' hands! This also includes me sanitizing my hands periodically throughout the session.

  2. Wear a mask. While it's hot and can be hard to hear me when I ask you to take two steps to the left, I will diligently wear my mask throughout our session. You won't have to, obviously, unless you're an expert as the "smize."

  3. Maintain a distance of 6 feet if possible. There are times when I may have to get a little bit closer to you, but I will be practicing Step 2 - Wear a mask, so we're still being as safe as possible.

  4. Sanitize and wash all blankets or chairs before the session. I have some great neutral blankets for sitting down poses that "go" with most families' outfits. I wash every blanket in hot water before each session. I don't usually bring a chair or prop with me to sessions, but if I do - it will be sanitized beforehand. If you'd prefer to use your own blanket, snap a picture of it and let me know! I'm open to alternative options that make my clients feel more confident during our time together.

  5. Cashless payment. This option isn't illustrated in the handy picture below, but I now send invoices electronically through PayPal for those who would prefer not to pass me cash or checks at the session.

So these are my main precautions regarding my portrait sessions during these crazy Covid times. If you're booking a session with me, I hope these steps alleviate any anxiety you might have regarding session safety. If you're using another photographer, don't be shy about asking for the steps they are taking to ensure your (and their!) health. We're all in this together and we can work together safely and compassionately to create beautiful memories for your family.
